Maloca Building Project: New AYA Ceremonial Space

In tandem with the North American Association of Visionary Churches, AYA wants to build malocas across North America. The maloca is the traditional ceremonial round-house of South America.  In the US, the traditional thatched roof and screened in windows isn’t always going to work.  But the traditional form can adapt to the demands of North American climate.  AYA is building its first maloca at our current base in the high western desert of Tucson, AZ.

(…continued from prior page) In any other context, you might call it a yurt.  But for us, it’s a maloca, planned for completion this Fall.  Our maloca will allow us to conduct ceremonies on our newly acquired 8-acre parcel year-round, regardless of monsoon rains or dustings of winter snow.   Help us make it happen.  By being a part of our congregation, you’ve already helped to acquire the land.  Now we’re onto the building phase.  If we can build a maloca here in Tucson, we can help and empower other churches or branches of AYA to build malocas elsewhere in the US.  There’s strength in numbers, help us in starting small, while reaching out with a broad vision for our community.
