Maloca Building Project
In tandem with the North American Association of Visionary Churches, AYA wants to build malocas across North America. The maloca is the traditional ceremonial round-house of South America. In the US, the traditional thatched roof and screened in windows isn’t always going to work. But the traditional form can adapt to the demands of North American climate. AYA is building its first maloca at our current base in the high western desert of Tucson, AZ.
In any other context, you might call it a yurt. But for us, it’s a maloca. Our maloca allows us to conduct ceremonies on our own 8-acre parcel year-round, regardless of monsoon rains or dustings of winter snow. Thank you for helping us make it happen, and although the maloca is complete the work is ongoing. By being a part of our congregation, you’ve already helped to acquire the land and complete the initial building phase in building the yurt. Through our efforts in Tucson in cooperation with a network of visionary churches across the US, we can help empower other churches to build malocas and expanded centers for healing in the US, while partnering with malocas in the Amazon. There’s strength in numbers, help us in starting small, while reaching out with a broad vision for our community.
